The story of our Foundation spread out to Dusseldorf
Lejla Seperovic is a friend of our Foundation who helped us immensely in organising meetup in Dusseldorf last week. Here is how she described it:
“Organising a meet-up in the last hours of my business trip to Germany was home-coming for a few reasons, not only is Germany my birth place where I spent a significant amount of my early life from getting educated, but also starting my first job. It was in Dusseldorf 2 decades ago when fresh from university I started at role at L’Oreal close to the river Rhein.
So, when the BH Futures trio Adela Kadiric, Ivana Culic and me joint forces, aligned diaries, agreed on date and location - this NRW meet-up was shaping.
Germany has the largest BiH diaspora and we welcomed a large group of diverse, open and authentic professionals on this rainy Sunday afternoon in Restaurant Sarajevo traveling from Cologne, Dortmund, Nijmegen (Holland) and other key cities. Our friends from the Pangea-Netwerk made time to join to further collaborate and build synergies.
After a warm welcome from Adela and an ice-breaker crafted by Ivana, it was time to introduce the vision, goal, and work of the BH Futures Foundation that aims to empower the next generation directly in Bosnia and Hercegovina. Ivana, our chemical engineering student from Banja Luka and scholar of the Foundation followed up with concrete examples on student life in BiH. She described challenges and limitations and how the Foundation tries to address these shortfalls by offering scholars internships, overseas work experiences, mentoring and coaching to name a few services.
Many of the meet up professionals were born in Bosnia and Hercegovina and relocated to Germany in the early/ mid 90’s. There was a common understanding that the current drain brain in BiH will have to be addressed at its grassroots through knowledge, education and opportunities.
I left the Duesseldorf meeting energised that Change is Coming. “
