Our Senior Scholar: Ibrahim Okić Shares his Journey from Coding Student to Mentoring

When opportunity knocks, do you answer, or do you hesitate? For Ibrahim, the answer came last month when his friends Ahmed Spahić and Jasmin Oruč called him with an irresistible offer—to join this year’s Coding Summer School team. Without a second thought, Ibrahim jumped at the chance.

Why was this such a big deal for him? Because just a few years ago, Ibrahim found himself in the same shoes as this year’s participants. Back in 2019, Ibrahim signed up for a web development course in his hometown of Srebrenik. It was a golden opportunity, but the pandemic hit, cutting the course short after only a few sessions. Although it was bad timing, this experience ignited a passion for web development for h im, opening eyes to a new world where he could create instead of just consume.

Fast forward to today, after navigating through a maze of technologies and accumulating countless "aha" moments through trial and error, Ibrahim confidently says that workshops like these are game-changers. They provide a roadmap and help you tackle complex ideas with much less confusion (and far fewer headaches).

That’s why, Ibrahim couldn’t pass up the opportunity to give back and mentor the next generation of developers through Coding Summer School. Ibrahim know firsthand how crucial these workshops can be, and his idea is to help students see the same potential in themselves that Ibrahim discovered during his own journey.

Ibrahim advices: “if you ever find yourself at a crossroads, don’t just stand there like a deer in headlights. Take that leap! Embrace the unknown, seek out opportunities, and remember: every great journey starts with a single step—or, in my case, a very enthusiastic phone call.”
