Our Flagship Program Manager, Melvisa Kovač Attends Igman Education Forum
The Center for Educational Initiatives Step by Step organized the Igman Education Forum from November 15 to November 17, 2024.The first Igman Education Forum brought together some of the most prominent free thinkers in education. Participants included Boris Buden, Nerzuk Ćurak, Asim Mujkić, Slavko Gaber, Boris Jokić, Ana Pešikan, Petar Bezinović, Galeb Nikačević, Milivoje Bešin, Svetlana Cenić, Jelena Vranješević, Sanja Petrović Todosijević, and many other academics, researchers, and individuals committed to education at various levels. The primary goal of the forum was to create a platform for exchanging ideas and gathering like-minded individuals to collaboratively shape a higher-quality education system and preserve the joy of childhood for every child. The forum's speakers addressed three key areas of education:
Ideology and Education – Exploring the impact of destructive ideologies and ideologies in general on educational systems in the region, particularly in the context of media and politics.
The World and Education – Examining how current geopolitical circumstances will influence education in our region.
The Battle for Education – Discussing the human resources available in education and how schools can become meaningful spaces for learning and preparation for 21st-century challenges.
Our Flagship Program Manager, Melvisa Kovač, participated in the forum and shared her impressions:
"The forum's program was truly inspiring and served as a reminder of how important it is to critically question everything and everyone. In the attention economy, we’ve all somewhat become mere observers. This is especially significant in the context of education, which arguably does not adequately prepare us for the global and local challenges of the 21st century (climate change, critical reassessment of current global policies, and their reflection on ordinary people, among others). I hope that we at the Foundation contribute, even in a small way, to preserving universal human values that are more necessary than ever—values that were a key conclusion in several sessions during the Forum."
