Modeling Reality Through Physics and Statistics
As part of the BH Futures Foundation’s 2025 Summer Academy held in Tuzla, scholars had the opportunity to attend an engaging and thought-provoking workshop titled “Modeling Reality: Physics and Statistics.” The session was led by Professor Dr. Rifat Omerović, a distinguished physicist from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Tuzla.
The goal of the workshop was to emphasize the importance of quantitative thinking and to demonstrate how the laws of physics combined with statistical methods can be used to better understand and model real-world phenomena — from everyday events to complex systems.
Through a mix of lecture and hands-on examples, our scholars explored how natural laws describe the world around us, and how statistics allow us to analyze uncertainty, perform measurements, and predict system behaviors. A special focus was placed on the interconnectedness of physical principles and data interpretation, a crucial foundation in both modern scientific research and engineering practice.
This workshop was part of the 2025 evolution of the BHFF Academy, local conference held in different communities across Bosnia and Herzegovina. The aim is to inspire local environments by showcasing the knowledge, excellence, and potential of our youth.
With sharp insights and practical examples, the workshop not only deepened participants’ understanding of the physical world, but also highlighted the power of science in shaping how we observe, analyze, and act on reality.
