First BH Futures Academy of 2021
Futures Academies are an important occasion for all scholars and volunteers - it is the opportunity for us to gather, reflect on the work we’ve accomplished over the past months, attend workshops and together make plans for the future of our Foundation. Just like most organisations do nowadays, our first Academy in 2021 was held online, but that did not stop our Academies team from making this a great experience for all attendees.
The Academy attendees could choose one of the four workshops on various topics, including the imposter syndrome, communicating with the media, making the best of LinkedIn, as well as efficient time organisation when working in a team.
Impostor syndrome
The impostor syndrome workshop was held by Mustafa Šuvalija, a psychologist and content writer at Mistral Technologies. The participants had the opportunity to discuss not feeling good enough in a work environment, as well as doubting their own accomplishments and talents.
Effective and authentic communication with the media
Another workshop our scholars had the opportunity to attend was Lejla Mazlić’s workshop on effective and authentic communication with media. Lejla Mazlić is a producer at Al Jazeera Balkans and the participants had the opportunity to learn how effective and authentic communication can shape the way people see us. Lejla shared her advice on how to prepare for a TV interview and the practical task of this workshop were mockup interviews with all participants.
How to make the most out of LinkedIn
A great number of our scholars love to connect on LinkedIn and find ways to meet new people there who could help them in their career growth. Maja Puškarić joined us from Vienna to discuss how to make the most out of LinkedIn and how making connections there can advance our careers in a way no other social network can help us.
Teamwork efficiency
Since all of our scholars get to work in a team within the Foundation, a workshop on teamwork efficiency turned out to be of great use to those who wanted to learn how to make the most out of the time spent with their team. Haris Arnautovic, our Alumni, held a workshop on how to work effectively in a team and gave important pieces of advice to all participants on how to make sure the team is always on track with time.
After the two-hour-long workshops with our lecturers, it was time for our senior scholars to get introduced to the work of SYPLC and its teams. All team coordinators introduced their teams and the work they do This Academy was an opportunity for our scholars to get the real scope into the work behind the scenes and find the way they could contribute to the work of our teams. We are looking forward to seeing our new scholars bring their energies together to make great things in the future.
Although online, this Academy turned another February Saturday into another opportunity for learning, connecting and growth of our community. Right before the beginning of a new semester for most of our scholars, this Academy meant another opportunity for skill improvement and education beyond the formal framework. An immense thank you goes to our lecturers, Mustafa Šuvalija, Lejla Mazlić, Maja Puškarić and Haris Arnautović for spending their Saturday with us and sharing their knowledge and experience we could all learn from.
