BH Futures Scholars at Utrecht Summer School
In the period from 9th to 13th August, our students Una Karabeg (Senior Scholar and Event Coordinator), Valerija Ereš (CMO), and Amar Eminović (Senior Scholar and Coordinator of the HP Team) attended Utrecht Summer School’s course ‘Global Management: Strategic Marketing, Management and Finance’ at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht - Business and Management.
The course consisted of both theoretical and practical components focusing on planning, implementing, and evaluating an international brand marketing strategy within a realistic simulated environment. The course lecturer, Mr. Bart Toering, MSc, motivated students by providing them with case studies to evaluate and suggest further improvement of international companies in the world nowadays.
After reviewing and discussing the case studies, attendants that were divided into 4 multicultural teams competed among each other and had a task to develop a business plan following one of the business models learned during the class. The course participants had an international background, originating from all over the world: from our country (BiH) to Brazil, Greece, Nigeria, UAE, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Siera Leone, India, Pakistan, and the Philippines.
We are proud to announce that Una Karabeg and her team from UAE, Nigeria, and Greece won the Global Management Business Challenge within the Global Management course by providing a solution of an innovative practical phone case for women focusing on the Western Balkans area, and judges' comments were positive, complimenting the presentation skills, the comprehensiveness of the business model presented providing an entire supply chain followed by financial analysis and a marketing plan in both short and long run.
Judges were experts within the field: course lecturer, Mr. Bart Toering, MSc; Mr. Gerard Geijtenbeek, guest lecturer at the course and director at Roldo Rent; and Mr. Ruud Verschuur RM EMP, management consultant specialized in retail and brands and Managing Director at Drivesight Management Consultancy.
Within the Summer School, a visit to Zaanse Schans was also organized – a chance to see the very first industrial zone in the Netherlands, an exceptional area full of wooden houses, barns, mills, and fields. Course Participants visited De Zaansche Molen – an inside of a windmill that is estimated to be one of the last remaining paint windmills in the world.
Upon the completion of the course, all participants earned 2 ETCS credits for the above-mentioned bachelor level course.
Our Scholars also attended Professionals Meetup in Utrecht, the Netherlands on the 14th of August, where they had the opportunity to present the values and mission of BH Futures Foundation and meet their colleagues, professionals originating from Bosnia and Herzegovina but living and working in the Netherlands. This meetup was an amazing opportunity for them to see all the opportunities they have and can further develop, but also to explore the studying opportunities and culture of this European country and be advised upon their plans by more experienced professionals that also share the values of our Foundation.
P.S. Special shout-out to Nerko Hadžiarapović, Doctoral Researcher at the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht for inviting us to the Summer school, and Sanir Pašalić, Managing Director at Western Balkans Business Group for helping us with the Meetup.
