raSTEM Conference Bijeljina Empowers the Youth in IT and STEM Sectors

The highly anticipated raSTEM Conference Bijeljina made history with its remarkable success stories and opportunities. The conference was held on 19th and 2th of May in Bijeljina.

This amazing event provided invaluable insights into the paths and possibilities in the IT and STEM sectors and inspired over 400 attendees in Bijeljina.

We had the privilege of hearing from a lineup of such knowledgeable speakers who shared their expertise on the latest trends, including renewable energy, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and software development for the automotive industry.

The conference kicked off with a keynote speech by Dr. Edin Husić, a Mathematician and Researcher from IDSIA USI-SUPSI in Switzerland. He presented on bipartite graph matching, exploring topics such as online advertising, and specialization allocation.

Next, Dr. Vladan Lazarević, a Scientific Associate at ABB in Switzerland, discussed the role of power electronics as a key driver of the energy transition and the new industrial revolutions. His presentation shed light on the significance of energy electronics in shaping the future of various industries.

Gorica Stevanović, a Software Engineer at TTTech Auto in Serbia, talked about software programming and testing for dedicated computer systems in the automotive industry. Her session highlighted the importance of robust software development practices for ensuring the reliability and safety of automotive systems.

Namik Hrle, the Director of Development at IBM in Germany, delivered a captivating presentation on artificial intelligence and quantum computers as crucial catalysts for the advancement of information technology. He explored the potential of these emerging technologies and their impact on various sectors.

A panel discussion took place after a short break featuring our incredible scholars. The panelists included Šejla Grcić, Ahmed Mahmutović, Ali Mokayes, and Anđela Jeftović. They engaged in a thought-provoking conversation on the influence of volunteer activities on the career development of young professionals.

The second day of the conference was equally enriching, with a series of workshops focusing on personal and technical skills relevant to the job market in STEM and IT fields.

Our esteemed Executive Director, Majda Mujanović Babović, and the Secretary of the Board of Directors, Momčilo Amović, along with our distinguished keynote speakers and workshop facilitators, had the honor of paying a visit to the esteemed Mayor's, Ljubiša Petrović, office on Saturday morning. During this momentous occasion, they had the privilege of signing the illustrious Book of Impressions, capturing their profound admiration for the remarkable City of Bijeljina.

Saturday's sessions took place at the Technical School "Mihajlo Pupin."

Career counseling sessions were led by Emina Hodžić, focusing on CV and job application techniques, while our alumni Kenan Kurdić offered valuable advice and recommendations on public speaking and presentation skills. The Futures Mobile Makerspaces Team facilitated a workshop on choosing careers in the IT sector.

After a brief break, participants had the opportunity to further develop their technical skills through workshops on IoT led by Nenad Grujičić, 3D printing conducted by the Futures Mobile Makerspaces Team, and an AI workshop led by Zorana Štaka.

The raSTEM Conference successfully provided a platform for high schoolers and students of Bijeljina interested in the IT and STEM sectors to explore new horizons, gain inspiration from success stories, and acquire valuable skills through engaging workshops.

The collaboration between the City of Bijeljina and the BH Futures Foundation demonstrates a shared commitment to fostering growth and innovation in the region's technological landscape.

With its diverse program and enthusiastic participants, raSTEM has undoubtedly made a significant contribution to promoting the development of IT and STEM fields in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
