Foundation hosts BH researchers in first international virtual roundtable
On Thursday 11th of May, a large number of Bosnia & Herzegovina research met in what is a first “Virtual Researchers Roundtable”. The event was organised in collaboration between Bosnia & Herzegovina Futures Foundation and the University of Melbourne - Business School Online.
The 90 minute session was held inside of the Melbourne Business School (University of Melbourne) virtual classroom, a state-of-the-art learning space and first of its kind for Australian higher education institutions. The session commenced with a welcome address from our host Dr. Damir Mitric. An overview of the Bosnia & Herzegovina research ecosystem was provided by Dr. Eddie Custovic, indicating that there are nearly 10,000 active researchers in academia and industry with BH origins. Dr. Munib Karavdic led the research discussion and breakout sessions to follow.
Researchers conducted a three question short survey about their research collaborations:
What is your status of research collaboration?
What value do you place in research collaboration between BiH and diaspora researchers?
How likely are you to participate in collaborations with BiH/diaspora researchers
Breakout sessions
Two breakout sessions were organised in the virtual session, in which researchers were split into groups of 5-6 with the purpose of getting to know each other better but also to address two themes:
Sharing of research collaboration best practices - Participants in each group shared best practices of collaboration between BiH and diaspora researchers.
Ideation: Improving quality and quantity of research collaboration between researchers in BiH and diaspora - Participants focused on discussing how we as a community can improve the quantity and quality of collaboration between BiH and diaspora researchers.
Both breakout sessions indicated that BH researchers have a great desire improve and increase the collaboration between BH and diaspora based personnel. Researchers indicated that a platform was needed to make connecting between them much easier and better ways to find collaborators based on field and experience. Researchers from BH wanted diaspora researchers to be more inclusive in their international projects as frustrations in accessing research repositories.
Overall, there was enormous enthusiasm among researchers and all of the indicated that they want to be part of the next forum and continue the collaboration.
Bosnia & Herzegovina Futures Foundation would like to sincerely thank the Melbourne Business School Online (University of Melbourne) for the collaborations in executing this important gathering. In particular we extend our thanks to Dr. Damir Mitric, former board member of our foundation and now learning transformation director at Melbourne Business School, for facilitating the relationship. We would also like to thank Dr. Munib Karavdic from ANUBiH for co-hosting the roundtable with our founder Dr. Eddie Custovic.
Bosnia & Herzegovina Futures Foundation incubates and accelerates the potential of students in Bosnia & Herzegovina. As part of its portfolio of activities, we are involved in helping support young researchers through varying activities (as indicated in the image above).
