For a Better Tomorrow: How BH Futures Foundation Opens Doors for Youth

The fifth episode of the For a Better Tomorrow podcast features Adnan Ferhatović, an IT student at International Burch University and a senior scholar at BH Futures Foundation. The Power of Mentorship and Community

"Having an excellent mentor was an important moment in my personal development," Adnan explains. "Beyond professional mentorship, I developed a close friendship with my mentor. Through that experience, I gained not only knowledge but also opportunities for internships at renowned companies like Lanaco and Servet Business Consulting."

Adnan focused on how his involvement with the Foundation helped him upscale his teamwork and organizational skills through projects like Mobile Makerspace and various conferences across Bosnia and Herzegovina. One standout experience for him was organizing a conference in Banja Luka. "Being involved in the logistics, from arranging accommodations to executing the event itself, was a challenge on a much higher level than I had experienced before. I enjoy the dynamic and professional nature of the projects within the Foundation," he says.

Volunteering as a Catalyst for Growth

Adnan highlights the importance of being open to new opportunities, even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone. "When I mentioned going to Banja Luka for a month, I didn’t receive much support because it meant being away from home for a long time. But I believe you need to be brave, try new things, and take advantage of the opportunities organizations like BH Futures Foundation provide. Without the Foundation, I would probably have to spend a lot more time finding something similar on my own."

Advice for Young People: Start with the Ignite Program

Adnan recommends the Ignite Program as an ideal starting point for those who want to join BH Futures Foundation. "The goal is to empower students and help them discover what they want to do in the future. If I had the chance to hear similar experiences from students while I was in high school, I might have better idea on what I wanted to study."

Adnan’s message to young people is clear: "Volunteer, be open to opportunities, and be ready for change. BH Futures Foundation is an organization that provides the resources and support needed for both professional and personal success."
