Leading science educator Prof. Adam Maltese from Indiana University visits foundation

Prof. Adam Maltese was in Sarajevo for a few days where he visited the Sarajevo Maker Faire. One of the showcases he was particularly interested in was our foundation and the entire process of shaping young people the way we do. He dropped into our office in Sarajevo and caught up with Melvisa Kovac our head of scholarships & flagship programs.

Prof Maltese is a professor of Science Education and Martha Lea and Bill Armstrong Chair in Teacher Education. His research interests include making and STEM education. Dr. Maltese and his international colleagues work toward improving the current educational experiences of youth in order to better prepare them for an unpredictable future. His research team has collaborators from 10 different countries.

His focus is education - learning processes, how people develop from recipients of information to minds that create new information.

He is currently undertaking research in the context of STEM and what factors influence someone to be a better or worse problem solver. He wanted to find out a little more about the Foundation's activities and what our challenges and goals are, how open the youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina are to change, how we communicate with decision makers.

We exchanged some views on the quality and approach to education in BiH and the USA.

Prof. Maltese expressed an interest to continue to collaborate and connect with other researchers in the field in Bosnia & Herzegovina, which we bring together in numerous initiatives.

We extend our thanks for Prof. Maltese for visiting us and look forward to collaborating in the advancement of education in Bosnia & Herzegovina.
