Social media privacy awareness campaign: Raising awareness on your privacy
For the past two months a group of our scholars Aiša Bečić , Nail Bobić , Amer Šabić , and Emina Dedić (mentored by Amina Čehaja) used social media to teach their peers about social media privacy and the importance of cybersecurity. Here’s how they did that:
What was the goal of your project?
The goal of our project was to create entertaining content that would educate the community about raising cyber threats.
How did you achieve this goal and get the message across?
We achieved this by answering questions that a non-tech person would ask and by trying to answer them in a way that someone with no previous knowledge can understand. We used existing content, conducting interviews, and sourcing from platforms like Reddit and Quora. We presented the information in an entertaining format on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn to reach our desired audience.
Additionally, we researched some products that can help users achieve better cybersecurity and provided the top three rankings so users can upgrade their security. To become a more trusted source and to give more accurate information to the audience, we also conducted two interviews with experts in the field who explained more about cybersecurity.
Why cybersecurity?
During one of our initial team meetings, we discussed the vulnerability we face online, which led us to see an opportunity to make a positive impact on the community. We live in a digital age and spreading that message was easier using social media itself. We feel like we succeeded with that goal since we had over 38 000 impressions, reached over 13 000 accounts and over 550 interactions on Instagram campaign, over 1300 views and 1000 total viewers on TikTok campaign and over 550 impressions on LinkedIn.
What did you learn from this experience?
Since we are not cybersecurity experts, this opportunity allowed us to delve much deeper into the cybersecurity domain. Additionally, as we were doing a marketing campaign, we gained insights into marketing strategies and connected with new people along the way.
