Beyond her technical career, she is passionate about entrepreneurship and actively seeks innovative opportunities within and beyond the automotive sector. Dina Karamuratović, winner of Vera Šnajder Award 2023 used her travel grant to attend a conference in Barcelona.
Where did it all started from?
“My motivation to apply for the Vera Šnajder Award came from my esteemed professor, Dr. Amra Hasečić, who encouraged me to pursue this prestigious recognition. She believed in my potential and emphasized that this was an opportunity I shouldn't miss. I wanted to celebrate our hard work together and began to truly believe that I could win. The application process itself wasn't overly demanding, but I had the invaluable support of my mentor, who guided me on how to fill out the application and present my work in the best possible light to the expert jury.”
Addressing Corrosion Challenges in Oil and Gas Facilities: Dina Karamuratović's Innovative Research Using CFD Simulations:
During Dina's master’s studies at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Sarajevo, she worked for a company specializing in the design of oil and gas facilities. Through her practical experience, Dina noticed that these facilities faced significant corrosion issues. When discussing her research topic with my mentor, Dina expressed her desire to tackle a concrete industry problem. This led to Dina’s project titled "Analysis of Corrosion in Pipes Using CFD Simulations and Corrosion Prediction Models."
“I conducted CFD simulations of a horizontal pipeline using OpenFoam software, and then I used the simulation results as input data for a program I developed according to NORSOK standards. This program calculated the corrosion rate at specific sections of the pipeline.”
The practical application of Dina’s research is significant in the industry, as it allows for the prediction of where corrosion will occur in pipelines, enabling preventive measures by adjusting certain parameters.
“Developing my master’s thesis was quite demanding and required a multidisciplinary approach, but the effort and hard work definitely paid off.”
Fostering Innovation and Opportunity: Dina Karamuratović's Vision for Young Researchers in Bosnia and Herzegovina:
Dina had the opportunity to connect with her peers and gain insights into their research and the industries in their countries. “Barcelona is a beautiful city, and the experience was even better with great company. We spent a lot of time together, sharing our perspectives on the world and talking about future plans. We exchanged contacts, and we will definitely continue to collaborate in the future. I can say that I significantly broadened my horizons, learned a lot of interesting and useful information, and formed valuable friendships around the world.”
“The most valuable experience I gained from attending the conference was undoubtedly the connections and relationships I established. I had the opportunity to attend presentations where my colleagues shared their innovative solutions for the first time. I was truly inspired by the conference themes, as they were all familiar to me, and I wished for all young researchers in Bosnia and Herzegovina to have equal opportunities for exploration and advancement. I hope that, in the future, our researchers and students will have similar support from the industry to pursue their work.”
