Mentorship Success Stories: Majda and Lejla
Earlier this year, in collaboration with MarketMakers, we launched a mentoring program to provide the necessary support and boost professional development to university and high school students in our county. It has been 4 months since the program began, and it has already delivered some beautiful and positive stories. We bring one such story below, whose actors are a member of our Foundation, Majda Mujanović Babović, in the role of a mentor, and a young telecommunications student, Lejla Šarić, who has applied to this program intending to improve and direct her potentials and capacities.
This is how Lejla described her experience:
Applying for programs, training, and workshops has always been a new challenge and a new adventure for me because I have never known if I would be accepted to what I have applied for. It is difficult to describe the feeling of turmoil and excitement that followed just one "submit" click. This is exactly what happened to me when I noticed a BH Futures Foundation’s call for a mentoring program and decided to apply for it, as it was something that I have not had the opportunity to try before. Not too long after that, I was again feeling nervous and wondering whether the answer would be positive, or it would just say ‘wish you more luck next year’.
Being accepted for a mentoring program was the first time I encountered a huge dose of happiness and enthusiasm as a mentee, and the second time was when I found out that my mentor will be the woman I had met a few months earlier and who fascinated me with her story and energy. It happens in life that you meet the people you want to spend more time with and learn from then, and one of those was my dear mentor Majda.
I still remember our first meeting. I felt a bit nervous about what I would say, how I would behave, did I even know why I was here. As time passed by and after more meetings, I was becoming more and more certain that this mentoring program was the best thing that happened to me this year. As the months passed in communication with my mentor, we set new and more significant goals to achieve. Somehow, throughout the program, we focused the most on personal development and improvement.
I believe that this program and mentorship with Majda have opened up for me new perspectives, ways to solve problems and set new goals, and most importantly has made me a happier, braver, and more courageous person in the world of IT. In the end, it all comes down to the very first step that we make for ourselves. My first step was just a “click” I made browsing the web, and today I am here where I am, writing a story about the best mentoring program and the best mentor.”
We would like to congratulate to Lejla and Majda on their positive story and thank them for sharing it with us. We are very proud of them and wish them much happiness and success in their mutual work.
