Future Web Luminaries: Online Web Development Workshop for High School Students
With the help of the Association of Computer Science Teachers & Professors of Tuzla Canton, Bosnia & Herzegovina Futures Foundation conducted an online workshop on web development for high school students of Tuzla Canton and for Futures Ignite Scholars from 11 to 29 October 2021. The workshop welcomed 92 participants, all keen to learn more about how the world web works and what it takes to create a website.
The workshop had two parts - the first part consisted of three lectures held by the members of the Mobile Makerspace team of the BH Futures Foundation: Berina Omerašević (student at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Sarajevo, Software Developer at Visiot), Selman Patković (Software Engineering student at the Faculty of Polytechnic in Zenica, Software Developer at Commerce Care), and Negra Ahmetspahić (student at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Sarajevo, Software Developer at Authority Partners). These lectures encompassed the basics of web technologies: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
The second part of the workshop was a competition that included creating a webpage for the Programmers’ League (a project of the Association mentioned earlier designed to prepare students for Computer Science competitions) using technologies learned during the lectures and a Kahoot quiz as another way to check knowledge.
The three winners of the competition were awarded cash prizes, and they are Emin Nefić, our scholar and the fourth-grade student of the Muhsin Rizvić Gymnasium in Breza in the first place, and Enes Brčaninović coming in second and Danijel Kulić in third place, both fourth-grade students of the Živinice Gymnasium in Živinice.
We offer our sincere gratitude to the Association of Computer Science teachers and professors of Tuzla Canton for the awards, and especially to the Association’s President Nedžad Husičić who greatly helped with the organization of this event. We also want to thank the Association for their generous help in organizing Arduino workshops in Tuzla, Klokotnica, Gračanica, and Doboj.
With this workshop, we also want to invite all other teachers who want to organize a similar event in their school to reach out at mobile.makerspaces@bhfuturesfoundation.org.
